Baku: The latest feature in AZERTAC’s ‘If I Were a Tourist’ column highlights the hidden tourism gem of Azerbaijan’s Ismayilli district – the Ashigbayramli Lake.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Ashigbayramli Lake, named after the adjacent village, was originally commissioned in 1952 to irrigate 1,900 hectares of farmland. Over the years, it has transformed from an essential agricultural resource into a captivating leisure destination. Visitors to the lake are captivated by its tranquil atmosphere, fresh air, and stunning natural scenery, which includes lush greenery and majestic mountains.
In 2021, reconstruction efforts rejuvenated Ashigbayramli Lake. The project expanded the lake’s water capacity, renovated the surrounding area, and modernized the entrance, enhancing both its tourism and agricultural importance. The lake plays a crucial role in the water supply for nearby villages and supports the irrigation of nearly one thousand hectares of arable land. Furthermore, it functions as a primary water source for the Yekakhana reservoir in the Goychay district.
Situated along the Garamaryam-Shaki highway, Ashigbayramli Lake attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists each year. Visitors can enjoy serene boat tours, admire the breathtaking mountain views, and capture lasting memories through photography. The lake’s combination of natural beauty and strategic significance makes it a standout attraction in the region.
