Tbilisi: As a result of large-scale migration control measures carried out in Georgia, 59 foreigners illegally residing in the country have been detained, APA’s local bureau reports, citing the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The operation underscores Georgia’s commitment to enforcing its migration laws and maintaining national security.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the detainees include citizens of Kenya, Trkiye, Russia, India, Egypt, Ghana, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Sudan, Cameroon, China, and Azerbaijan. It was established that these individuals were staying in Georgia in violation of the requirements stipulated by the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.
The detained individuals have been placed in the temporary accommodation center of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Procedures for their removal from Georgia are currently ongoing, highlighting the country’s stringent approach to addressing illegal immigration.
