Y. Sagadiyev: UNT will be held from June 20 to July 1 in 167 locations
During today’s Government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Minister of Education and Science Yerlan Sagadiyev reported on the preparations for the Unified National Testing.
As Yerlan Sagadiyev noted, in 2018 UNT will be held for the 15th time. During these years more than 1.5 million school leavers took the UNT. This makes up 80% of their total number of graduates.
According to the Minister, until 2017, UNT performed three functions: the function of the final exam, as the summation of 11 years of school education, as an entrance exam to universities, and as a mechanism for awarding state educational grants.
As you know, this format of testing was changed in 2017. Now the final attestation or final examination is conducted in schools, and UNT has become an entrance exam to universities and a tool for awarding educational grants, – Y. Sagadiyev emphasized.
The final academic assessment, in other words, the final examination in schools will be held from May 29 to June 9. Examinations take place on 5 subjects, including 4 compulsory and 1 subject of choice. All examinations are divided into oral and written exams and tests. The materials for the final examinations are prepared by the National Testing Center and will be delivered by special communication to all regional education departments by May 25 of this year.
In 2018, the UNT format does not change, i.e. it will be conducted in the current format, as in the past year. Terms of UNT and the number of test cases do not change, the Minister of Education and Science said.
UNT will be held from June 20 to July 1 in 167 locations. There is a total of 120 test tasks. The maximum score is 140. The passing score is 50 points, and for entry into the national universities it is necessary to score 65 points.
To date, a database of test tasks for all subjects of the UNT has been formed. In 2018 the database of test tasks was updated by 50%. Test tasks are focused on functional literacy, i.e. on the definition of abilities for further learning, the level of logical thinking, basic competencies and understanding. The variety of forms and content of tasks will eliminate the possibility of guessing and memorizing the educational material, and will give an opportunity to assess the real knowledge, abilities of the graduate.
The number of graduates who expressed a desire to take UNT this year is 102 442 or 70% of the total number of graduates, including 77 thousand or 76% in the Kazakh language, 25 thousand or 24% – in Russian. Compared with last year, the number of graduates who applied for participation in the UNT increased by 10 thousand. The share of school leavers participating in the UNT is 70%. The number of graduates who pass the UNT in the Kazakh language has increased by 5%. This year, graduates are given the first opportunity to take UNT in English.
The Ministry will not conduct a rating of schools following the results of the UNT.
To prepare graduates for UNT, the trial online testing mechanism has been improved. Now one can pass it at home. To date, online testing has been completed 145 thousand times.
In addition, since the beginning of the year, in response to the requests of schools, about 390 thousand paper test books were sent to the regions. It is also planned to send an additional 185 000 test books. Thus, by the beginning of the UNT, each graduate will, on average, undergo trial testing about 7 times.
In order to improve the conditions for the UNT participants, the following innovations are envisaged in the current year:
– Issuing an information leaflet with a combination of profile subjects to each graduate, along with the UNT certificate;
– A list of specialties for which you can apply;
– Providing graduates with the opportunity to take UNT in the next wave or when CT is performed in case of absence during UNT for valid reasons;
– Providing an individual assistant, as well as a sign language interpreter for children with special educational needs;
– The launch of a single call center, a call to which across Kazakhstan will be free of charge.
Since the current year, when awarding educational grants, holders of the Altyn belgi token will have the pre-emptive right only when scores are equal.
The possibility remains of admission to higher education institutions on a paid basis in August of this year, and for admission to a paid branch in universities in January of next year. Thanks to this norm, over 30 000 young people are granted the right to access higher education.
