The World Sambo Championship will be held in Kyrgyzstan for the first time, from November 11 to 13, Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy Kanat Shabdanbaev told today at a press conference at the Kabar Agency.

Athletes from 55 countries will come to Bishkek.

“420 athletes from 55 countries applied for participation. Members of the national team of Kyrgyzstan are training in Cholpon-Ata. The state has allocated about 4 million soms for holding such a large-scale event,” Shabdanbaev said.

These funds are used to train the national team of the republic, purchase equipment for it, pay for accommodation and meals for international judges, manufacture medals and memorable gifts, as well as organize broadcasts through large screens.

“We have no doubt that the upcoming championship will be held at the highest level, and it will become a real holiday for athletes, and will also greatly contribute to the promotion of sports and a healthy lifestyle, strengthening the country’s sports authority,” Shabdanbaev concluded.

Head of the office of the International Sambo Federation Alexander Korsik said that Kyrgyz athletes are one of the favorites of the upcoming championship.

“We are looking forward to a big holiday. Participants will arrive from all continents of the world. We hope that everything will be held at a high level,” he said.
