Uralsk – our main gateway to Europe – K.Tokayev


The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, familiarized himself with the current state of the international airport “Ural”, the press service of Akorda reports.

During the working visit to the West Kazakhstan region the head of state got acquainted with the plan of reconstruction of the airport.

The reconstruction and expansion of the Uralsk International Airport, which was commissioned in 1979, will start in July this year. As a result of construction, which will be completed by the end of 2020, the terminal will expand from 4,000 to 7,000 square meters. Currently, the capacity of the terminal is 200 passengers per hour, after repair – up to 400. Now 160,000 passengers are served per year, and in the future the airport will be able to accommodate 350,000 passengers.

The President of Kazakhstan emphasized that the reconstruction of the airport terminal is a prerequisite for a comfortable investment climate in the West Kazakhstan region.

“Urals is our main gateway to Europe. To be attractive to foreign investment, such a project should be implemented in a qualitative and timely manner, “Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said.

Karachaganak Petroleum Operating allocated 2.4 billion tenge for the reconstruction of the Ural International Airport.
