The Almaty Passenger Transport and Highways Department told about plans to build a light rail line (LRT), reports citing MIA Kazinform.

Construction of the LRT line is scheduled to begin in 2020. The investment cost of the project according to the feasibility study: infrastructure – 56 907 million tenge (including the construction of a depot), rolling stock – 36 512 million tenge. Total – 94,203 million tenge (including VAT), the department said in response to an official request from the editorial staff of Kazinform.

As stated in the response, this project is supposed to be implemented by concluding a PPP contract using the DBFOM model (design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance) through a two-stage international open competition for the definition of a private partner.

For a more rational implementation of work on the construction of the line LRT they are proposed to be divided into three stages, stressed in the management. The first stage includes the restructuring of engineering networks and backbone networks (diameter 600 mm and more) of heat supply that fall into the construction zone of the LRT corridor.

These works are preparatory and carried out by the local executive body of the city of Almaty. The second stage is the construction of an LRT depot with the connection of engineering communications.

The third stage is the construction of the LRT corridor from the west (from section G) to the east (to section F) with associated infrastructure.

Also, the akimat told whether land plots will be purchased to build the LRT line. “At the moment, the assessment of objects located on the LRT passage line along Raiymbek Avenue is being made,” the management explained.
