The Universiade-2017 was viewed by 1 billion people in 80 countries
At the regular Government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, the Minister of Culture and Sport Arystanbek Mukhamediuly reported on the results of hosting the 28th World Winter Universiade 2017.
As the Minister noted, overall the Universiade saw participation of 1632 athletes from 57 countries, 3000 volunteers were engaged. More than 230 thousand tickets were sold.
The broadcast of the Universiade-2017 was carried out in 80 countries with an audience of 1 billion viewers on channels such as EUROSPORT 1 and 2, CBS (USA), CCTV (China), KBS (South Korea), Match-TV (Russia), Eurosport Asia-Pacific (Australia and Oceania).
The competitions of the Universiade took place in 12 sports in 8 sports facilities, three of which were built for the Universiade � Almaty Arena, Halyk Arena and the Athletic village.
Kazakhstan was represented by a student team of 171 athletes in 12 sports. A record number of 36 medals were won (11 gold, 8 silver, and 17 bronze) and in the overall team standings Kazakhstan took 2nd place.
The Minister especially noted skier Anna Shevchenko, who won 5 medals, biathlete Galina Vishnevskaya � 4 medals, and other athletes who won gold.
Victories of our athletes rocked the entire sporting community and left no one indifferent among sports enthusiasts around the world. At the same time, these sports victories are proof of the high economic, social, and cultural development of our country, � A. Mukhamediuly concluded.
