The Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dariga Nazarbayeva, met with the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Jordan, Faisal al Fayez, who arrived in Kazakhstan to participate in the 4th Meeting of Speakers of Parliaments of Eurasia.
Dariga Nazarbayeva emphasized that Kazakhstan highly appreciates the activities of the close friend of our country King Abdullah II on reforming the social and political life of the Kingdom, as well as a constructive position on pressing international problems. King Abdullah II visited Kazakhstan seven times on official and private visits, took part in the fifth Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. He did a lot for the development of Jordan, the modernization of education, health care. I consider him one of the most progressive politicians in the Middle East, said the Head of the Senate.
The Chairman of the Senate of Jordan informed in detail about the foreign policy situation in the Kingdom and the region, in particular, about the complex processes taking place in the Middle East. F. al Fayez spoke about the negative effects of the Arab spring on the Jordanian economy. As a result of the war in Syria, 1 million 300 thousand refugees are in the country, which cost Jordan already $ 1.3 billion, and the support of the international community covers only a third of the costs.
The consequences of the Arab Spring are negative for everyone. It is very important to prevent such events in the future, D. Nazarbayeva said and called on the leaders of the Arab countries to unite in order to solve problems together.
Dariga Nazarbayeva suggested discussing the situation in the Middle East on the sidelines of the Eurasian Media Forum, as well as in the framework of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
Speaking about the development of trade and economic cooperation, the Chairman of the Senate of Jordan informed the Head of the Kazakh Senate about the weak work of the Kazakh Jordanian Business Council, which has been operating since 2007, but still has not brought tangible results.
During the meeting, issues of liberalizing the visa regime and opening direct air links between the two countries were also discussed, which would contribute to the development of tourism between Kazakhstan and Jordan.
