The Senate considered the issues of amending the lease of the Baikonur complex

At an expanded meeting of the Committee on Agrarian Issues, Nature Management and Rural Development of the Senate of the Parliament, the draft law “On Ratification of the Protocol on Amending the Lease Agreement for the Baikonur Complex between the Governments of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation dated December 10, 1994” was considered.

The protocol was completed in Chelyabinsk on November 9, 2017.

According to Senator Bekmyrza Elamanov, the Protocol is aimed at amending Appendix No. 2 of the Lease Agreement for the Baikonur complex between the Governments of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation and provides for the return by the Russian Federation of leased land plots with a total area of 11.6 thousand hectares to the Republic of Kazakhstan, of which: two plots with an area 1740 hectares are being leased for the expansion of the village of Toretam, Karmakshynsky district, Kyzylorda region; two sections with an area of 9950 hectares – for the construction of the international transit corridor Western Europe – Western China, for the Almaty-Moscow railway and the linear part of the Beineu-Shymkent gas pipeline.
