The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan met with the Presiding Officer “UN-Womens”

NUR-SULTAN, In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Office of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Office on the Rights of the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment “UN-Women” there was an official ceremony of signing the agreement in the form of exchange of notes.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yerzhan Ashikbayev underlined that the UN-Women’s Program activities in Kazakhstan are in line with the Government’s priorities, the United Nations Development Assistance Framework and the Agenda 2030.

The Government of Kazakhstan considers it important to continue constructive cooperation within the UN Office for the Promotion of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment with the UN Office for Women in UN-Women.

“It is a pleasure to note that this event was part of the Government’s active involvement in the issues of gender equality and empowerment of women. This fall, in the UN Committee on Geneva, Kazakhstan presents its 5th report on the fulfillment of its obligations under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and also participates in the Beijing Declaration and Regional Meetings on Implementation of the Beijing + 25 Platform for Action.

Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan, Elaine Konkievich, expressed her confidence that the event will confirm the commitment of the Government of Kazakhstan to implement the country’s gender agenda.

“UN Women” – Structure of the United Nations system of gender equality and empowerment of women, which promotes the establishment of international standards for the achievement of gender equality, co-operates with governments and civil society in designing the necessary laws, policies, programs and services in the implementation of these standards . The activities of the organization are focused on the global development agenda for the period up to 2030 – the promotion of Sustainable Development (MDGs) in the interests of women and girls, as well as their equal participation in all spheres of life.

Promoting gender equality and empowerment of women in the implementation of global norms, policies and standards as strategic priorities of the United Nations in Kazakhstan; leadership promotion, women’s equal participation in public administration; women’s guaranteed income, decent work and economic independence, elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls.
