According to Governor’s Office of the region, together with Governor of the region Danial Akhmetov the guests visited “Ulba Metallurgical Plant” JSC.
The members of the delegation got acquainted with the history of the plant and its potential.
The company produces rare metals. Only three plants in the world produce beryllium, and five – tantalum. One of them is concentrated in Ust-Kamenogorsk. The peculiarity of this plant is a fact that an international nuclear fuel bank is created on its territory.
“The meaning of this repository is that many countries want to develop nuclear energy but the uranium enrichment technology has two purposes – technical and military. Some countries, under the guise of peaceful use of the atom, can enrich uranium for military purposes. Therefore, it was proposed to create this bank, where any country can buy fuel”, the message reads.
Speaker of Parliament of Sweden Urban Ahlin noted that this is a very important initiative in the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
“Creating an international bank in your country is a recognition of Kazakhstan’s huge role in a matter that is important for the whole world”, he said.
In addition, the delegation visited an ethno-village of the left-bank complex, where the life and the traditions of the multinational region was represented.
