Sooronbay Jeenbekov: Islam and Orthodoxy are our spiritual heritage
Islam and Orthodoxy are our spiritual heritage and we value them as an invaluable common treasure. We are obliged to use these spiritual values competently for the development of the state, Kyrgyz leader Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at the “Islam and Orthodoxy Religions of Peace International Conference.
The head of state noted the constructive development of interaction between Islam and Orthodoxy would be ensured. Close cooperation not only in the sphere of religion, but also in the sphere of culture, language, traditions, science and education is a key factor of friendship and harmony between the two countries.
Preservation and strengthening of interfaith peace and harmony in the society will create conditions for effective confrontation with various extremist and radical trends. Such joint events as today’s Conference will open the way for joint activity, Jeenbekov said.
The Islam and Orthodoxy Religions of Peace International Conference, attended by President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, took place today, Nov. 21 at the Ala Archa state residence in Bishkek.
It was attended by representatives of the Spiritual Administrations of Muslims of Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tatarstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Orthodox Church of Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
The purpose of the Conference was to analyze historical processes and the current situation in the sphere of interaction between Islam and Orthodox Christianity in the post Soviet space, to discuss the common spiritual and cultural values of the two religions, their place and role in the construction of peace and harmony, the development of integration processes in the Eurasian space
