Senior US General Wounded in Terror Attack in Afghanistan
The Pentagon confirmed Sunday that a U.S. general was wounded in last week’s terrorist attack on a security conference in Afghanistan.
Army Brigadier General Jeffrey Smiley is recovering from at least one gunshot wound. Officials did not reveal how seriously he was hurt.
Smiley is in charge of NATO’s military advisory mission in southern Afghanistan.
He was wounded during last Thursday’s insider attack on a security conference in the governor’s compound in Kandahar province.
The Taliban says it was behind the attack that killed Kandahar’s police chief and intelligence chief.
The head of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, General Scott Miller, was one of the apparent targets of the attack.
