Senator Saule Aitpayeva attends a regional conference on “Strengthening Integration for Prosperity in Central Asia”
S. Aitpayev , a member of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, the Judicial System and Law Enforcement Agencies of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Nur-Sultan, took part in a regional conference on the theme Strengthening Integration for Prosperity in Central Asia.
The event, organized by the European Union, provides an opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The event is part of the new EU Strategy for Central Asia, which was adopted on June 17, 2019.
On the first day of the conference, the launch of three large-scale multi-year programs financed by the European Union with a total budget of 28 million euros was officially announced. They are aimed at supporting trade, the rule of law, investment and economic growth in Central Asian countries.
The ceremony of signing agreements on the three above programs was held, in which EU Ambassador Sven-Olov Karlsson, Head of the Office of the Directorate General for Programs of the Council of Europe Verena Taylor, Head of ITC Country Programs at Ashish Shah and Head of the OECD Countries for Eurasia William Thompson took part .
After the official ceremony, an expert ministerial discussion took place, during which the tasks of the new EU Strategy for Central Asia were discussed, as well as specific measures that need to be taken so that the leadership of the states of the region, the EU, their partners and representatives of the private sector move from plans to actions. Participants in the discussion, including ministers and deputy ministers of economy and justice, spoke about the priorities of Central Asian countries with regard to attracting investment and ensuring sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as spoke about plans to strengthen regional and international trade integration and recently adopted measures to strengthen the rule of law.
The second day of the conference will be devoted to the EU regional program Central Asia Invest.
