10th International Issyk-Kul Marathon “Run the Silk Road-Shanghai Cooperation Organization” started on Saturday at the hippodrome in Cholpon-Ata town of Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul Oblast.

The start of the marathon was given by Head of the Presidential Administration – Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov.

The purpose of the event is:

– strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation of SCO countries;

– promoting healthy lifestyles, introducing the population to regular physical training and sports;

– improvement of sport skills of the participants;

– development of internal and external event tourism.

A total of 3 thousand participants from 22 countries take part in the race.

The total distance of the marathon is 42 km 195 meters, half-marathon – 21 km 97 meters, running and Nordic walking – 10 and 3 km.

The prize fund of the marathon and half marathon is KGS 1 million 534 thousand.

10th International Issyk-Kul Marathon “Run the Silk Road-Shanghai Cooperation Organization is organized by the Department of Physical Culture and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan, the Directorate of Olympic Sports, Athletics Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic, International Marathon Directorate and the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Athletes who meet the standards of the marathon will receive a license for the World Championships, the Olympic and Asian Games.
