Railway workers warned of life risks
In NK “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” told about the causes of injuries on the railways, as well as reducing violations of traffic safety, reports ortcom.kz referring to the MIA “Kazinform”.
In 2018, 72 cases of hitting people on railways were registered. This happens because of non-compliance with the rules of being on the railroad tracks, being on the tracks in alcoholic intoxication or in headphones. Meanwhile, the number of visits decreased by 36%, the press service of the national company told Kazinform correspondent.
In the press service of KTZ-Freight, it was clarified that last year over 3,200 emergency braking of freight and passenger trains was registered in order to prevent raids on railway tracks. In 90% of cases, thanks to professional actions of locomotive brigades, we managed to prevent raids on people, vehicles and livestock. Unfortunately, with a weight of a freight train of 6 thousand tons and a speed of 6080 km / h, the stopping distance is 600800 meters, the train cannot stop immediately, the report says.
Experts say that the main cause of injuries on the roads is the carelessness and inattention of citizens crossing the rails in unidentified places. According to statistics, 20% of people injured on the railway walk in headphones, they don’t hear the locomotive beeps.
Also, the behavior of thrill-seekers who arrange games on railway tracks, taking selfies in dangerous places is of concern, the organization’s press service reported. The director of the traffic safety department of the national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Marat Shakenov said that in 2018 the traffic safety violations on the railway were reduced by 29%. If in 2017 we committed 248 security incidents, then in 2018 we reduced it to 176 cases, that is, 29% lower than in 2017, he explained, speaking at a briefing in Astana today.
According to him, this has been achieved due to the purposeful work of the structural divisions of the companies, a set of measures for the renewal and improvement of railway tracks, and the maintenance of rolling stock in the appropriate condition. At the same time, special attention was paid not only to indicators of the state of traffic safety, but also to the conformity of human, material, technical and technological resources. Thanks to this, a significant number of cases of potential violations of traffic safety have been prevented, Marat Shakenov emphasized.
He also said that in the first quarter of this year, a special Internet site will be launched, in which passengers can leave messages about safety violations on the railway.
According to him, the web resource will be a good platform to bring the facts on the ground, which do not reach us. Not only the railway worker can do this, but any citizen of Kazakhstan, he added.
