Prime Minister instructs to make timely payments to the winners of the Universiade

During the Government meeting Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev noted that the Universiade was held at a high level, and thanked its organizers and Kazakhstan’s student team, which showed high sports results.

B. Sagintayev noted that the Universiade gave impetus to the development of Almaty city; in connection with this it is necessary to use the experience of hosting such major events within the framework of the upcoming EXPO-2017 in Astana.

I instruct the Minister of Culture and Sport to in a timely manner make payments to the prize-winners of the Universiade, as well as their coaches. Also, the Ministry of Culture and Sport jointly with the Akimat of Almaty city must clearly resolve the issue of further use of sports facilities, � B. Sagintayev said.

Recall, the 28th World Winter Universiade 2017 took place in Almaty from 29 January to 8 February, 2017. The program consisted of 12 sports; the competition saw participation of around 2 thousand athletes. The broadcast of the Universiade was held in 80 countries of the world. At the time of the Universiade, Almaty was visited by more than 30 thousand domestic and foreign tourists. As a result of the competitions, Kazakhstan took second place in the overall standings, winning 11 gold, 8 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
