Prime Minister instructs to keep under special control the situation with Kazakh tourists abroad

Prior to considering an official agenda, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev dwelled on the issue related to Kazakh citizens who for various reasons failed to get home at the year-beginning. In particular, the issue involves Turkey and the UAE where flights were canceled due to weather conditions.

According to the Minister of Investments and Development Zhenis Kassymbek, the heavy fog and low visibility caused the cancellation of flights from Sharjah and Dubai, which affected about 500 people heading off to Kazakhstan. The airlines and tour operators jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have established emergency operations center for addressing this situation.

We have for the first time involved the system of guaranteeing rights of Kazakhstan citizens in the field of outbound tourism. December 31, 300 people were emergently transported under the Turistyk Kamkor corporate funds guarantee, the remaining passengers were transported by regular flights of other airlines. They were provided accommodation and meals for the period of delay. According to the airlines, all passengers of canceled flights will be provided a refund of the total cost of a ticket, Zh.Kassymbek said.

The Minister also reported on the situation at the Istanbul airport, where a number of flights to Kazakhstan were also canceled due to the heavy snowfall. This affected about 900 people, 600 of them were transported at the time of weather windows, and 300 people are currently at the airport. Kazakhstan side takes measures to provide them with food and hotel accommodation.

Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Investments and Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to keep this issue under special control.
