President of Lebanon invited to the OIC summit on science in Astana

The Special Representative of the President of Kazakhstan extended an invitation to the President of Lebanon to take part in the first OIC summit on Science and Technology.

Beirut hosted the meeting of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akylbek Kamaldinov and President of Lebanese Republic Michel Aoun, during which the Head of the Lebanese State was given the invitation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to take part in the first summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Science and Technology in Astana, September 11, 2017.

The special representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan acquainted the head of the Lebanese Republic with the process of preparation for the summit. A. Kamaldinov informed President M. Aoun in detail about the state and prospects of Kazakh-Lebanese relations, which have great potential for development, expressed gratitude for Beirut’s support of Kazakhstan’s candidacy for membership in the UN Security Council, and also spoke about the opening and the work of the international specialized exhibition EXPO- 2017.

Concerning bilateral and multilateral Kazakh-Lebanese relations, the diplomat briefed the Lebanese side on Kazakhstan’s contribution to ensuring stability and security in the world, including efforts aimed at a political-diplomatic settlement of the Syrian conflict.

Gratefully accepting the invitation, President M. Aoun expressed his deep gratitude to President N. Nazarbayev for the opportunity to participate in the OIC Summit in Astana. In the opinion of the Head of the Lebanese State, our countries have a great potential for developing mutually beneficial cooperation.

M. Aoun highly appreciated the efforts of Kazakhstan and President N. Nazarbayev to provide grounds to interested parties for holding negotiations in the political settlement of the Syrian crisis. President M. Aoun expressed his confidence that the Astana process will lay the foundation for ending the long-standing conflict.
