President: Kyrgyzstan has received more than $ 19 bln from labour migrants over past 10 years

Over the past ten years, Kyrgyzstan has received more than $ 19 billion form labour migrants, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at the meeting of the Council on Relations with Compatriots Abroad, which is taking place in the AlaArcha state residence.

In comparison, in the same tenyear period, the export volume of the entire country amounted to USD 18 billion. And the volume of foreign investments in the country amounted to only USD 8.3 billion.

The contribution of our migrants exceeds our exports and direct investment. The funds coming from compatriots, living outside the country, create new jobs and help reduce unemployment, he said.

Recently, our compatriots have been actively investing in the development of the regions, and they have become more actively involved in the implementation of social and economic projects in Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyz citizens abroad contribute to the construction of schools, kindergartens and bridges, provide assistance to lowincome families, single mothers and orphans. I am sure that this experience will be continued and you continue to assist in the development of your small homeland. This experience provides great support for the implementation of regional development tasks, Jeenbekov stressed.

The leader said local funds are being created in the regions in order to assist the development of the small homeland and compatriots invest in them.

For example, over 12 months of 2018, entrepreneurs carried out works worth KGS 6.1 billion, including construction of industrial and processing enterprises, repair of social facilities and roads, as well as providing assistance to poor families.

The President expressed his deep gratitude to compatriots for their support to the initiatives of the state level for the development of the regions.
