President instructs Nurlan Yermekbayev to deal with issues of religious extremism
President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev held a meeting with the Minister of Religious Affairs and Civil Society Nurlan Yermekbayev.
During the meeting the Head of State was presented a report on the activities and further plans of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Civil Society.
The President, noting the situation in the religious sphere, emphasized the role of the Ministry and tasks laid upon it.
Previously, we did not have such a Ministry. It is necessary to continue working with the religious communities, non-governmental sector and youth organizations, � Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
The President drew attention to the ongoing state policy towards religion and religious organizations, and also to measures taken to combat religious extremism.
In our country we have all conditions for the work of all religious communities, freedom of religion is guaranteed. We must remain calm within this area. At the same time it is necessary to deal with issues of religious extremism, review the legislation. The Ministry is tasked with a lot of work, � the Head of State said.
N. Yermekbayev informed the President of the stable situation in the area supervised by him, noting that there are more than 3600 religious organizations of 18 denominations operating in the country. According to the Ministry, the majority of those organizations are Islamic.
In addition, N. Yermekbayev told the Head of State of the work the Ministry is conducting to form a Kazakhstani model of interaction between the state and religious organizations with the preservation of inter-ethnic and inter-religious peace and harmony.
Following the meeting President N. Nazarbayev gave a number of specific instructions.
