PRESIDENT GIVES SEVERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO STRENGTHEN MEASURES AGAINST CORONAVIRUS
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has held a meeting with the heads of several government bodies, Strategy2050.kz reports with reference to the press service of Akorda.
Minister of Healthcare Yelzhan Birtanov reported on the situation in the world as the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic. The Minister informed about the contents of the WHO recommendations on the fight against infection, as well as about the situation with ensuring the safety of Kazakhstan citizens.
The Head of State gave a number of specific instructions to the Government and other state bodies to strengthen measures aimed at preventing the penetration and spread of the virus. In particular, a temporary ban on mass cultural and sports events, conferences and exhibitions is introduced. The sanitary regime will be strengthened in all crowded places, including shopping centers, markets, food processing facilities, stations and airports. The beginning of spring vocations at schools will be postponed to March 16, 2020, higher education institutions will switch to distance learning. Additional restrictive measures will affect international air transport.
The President emphasized the need to ensure an uninterrupted supply of citizens with food and essential goods. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also noted that restrictive measures should not harm small and medium-sized businesses.
