Particular attention to economic cooperation: Kazakhstan has proposed a new format of OSCE presence in Astana
MILAN, Thematic meeting “Promotion of economic cooperation in the OSCE space” was held in Milan within the framework of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Astana (CFM). Kazakhstan, the chair of the OSCE’s Economic and Environmental Committee, organized this event together with the Office of Economic and Environmental Coordinator of the Organization Secretariat.

Kazakhstan believes it is important to make a major impetus in implementing the Astana Declaration on the 2010 Security Community, which extends from Vancouver to Vladivostok. The Minister also reminded that the idea of Eurasian integration proposed by President Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1994 was successfully introduced into the Eurasian Economic Union. At present, the issue of interaction between different integration projects in Eurasia is relevant.
In the context of interconnectedness, Kazakhstan has presented its position on further transformation of OSCE presence in Astana from the Program Office to the Thematic Center. The Minister pointed out that the evolution of the field mission is always accompanied by the development of the country, and that “the current achievements of Kazakhstan in economic and political development require new approaches.”
“The new structure should focus on the issues of sustainable interconnection and transition to a” green “economy by promoting exchange of experience, analytical and research work. It is possible to implement projects in the field of related management, green economy development, disaster prevention, energy security, promotion of trade and transport in the OSCE space, “the statement reads.
Kazakhstan believes that new generation of OSCE in Astana opens new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation between the OSCE, CICA, SCO, ASEAN and other organizations.
Italian Deputy Chairman of the OSCE, Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Guillermo PicquA noted the role of economic and environmental dimension in the context of the growing conflict potential in the OSCE area.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Makey noted the role of the OSCE as a platform of economic cooperation.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov called for the development of transport corridors and proper governance within the OSCE.
Professor of the University of Birmingham Stefan Wolf noted the great potential of economic diplomacy in the OSCE.
The event has once again demonstrated the potential of the OSCE’s economic and environmental dimension, which is supported by Kazakhstan on the basis of the principle of interconnections between development and security issues.
