OSCE SUPPORTS PREVENTION OF MISINFORMATION IN KAZAKHSTAN
The seminar on the protection of freedom of expression and the policy against hate speech took place with support of the OSCE Programme Office in Nur-Sultan and co-organized by Legal Media Centre NGO on 18 October 2019 in the city of Atyrau, Western Kazakhstan, the OSCE Programme Office in Nur-Sultan informs.
The event brought together journalists, students and civil society representatives to discuss the linkages between the media and the policy against hate language, as well as the ways of fostering cooperation among the government, civil society and organizations.
The participants went through some digital and print media outlets to figure out the language journalists use, looking at damaging effects of media stereotypes.
The seminar’s objective was to teach media representatives to manage hate language, as well as the ways of reducing possible negative effects of the internet and destructive behavior, including trolling, cyber bullying and hate language.
The event took place in accordance with the Office’s efforts in promoting freedom of media and speech under the OSCE principles and undertakings.
