Opening of Hilton hotel and Starbucks coffee shops discussed by Bishkek mayor and US ambassador
Bishkek Mayor Aziz Surakmatov, together with vice mayors met with a delegation of the United States Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic led by Ambassador Donald Lu, the press service of the Bishkek Mayor’s Office reported.
Mayor Surakmatov expressed hope for fruitful cooperation in attracting investments, joint implementation of projects on the environmental safety of the capital, and establishing partnerships with US cities.
Donald Lu said that representative of Alshaya Group James Tynen has already begun to study details and locations for the possible construction of the Hilton hotel complex and the opening of the Starbucks coffee shop in Bishkek. The preliminary negotiations on the entry of global brands into Bishkek took place in October this year.
The sides discussed joint projects in the field of environmental safety. Deputy head of the political and economic department of the US Embassy Bikel Dustin expressed his intention to help create a roadmap for reducing harmful emissions in the capital. And Ambassador Lu noted that such an approach once helped the most polluted city of Los Angeles to clear itself of pollution.
