Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbaev returned to work at his office in Astana on October 14, three days after official reports said he was being treated for a “cold.”
State-run television channels in Kazakhstan on October 14 showed Nazarbaev meeting with Prosecutor-General Zhalip Asanov and the mayor of Astana, Aset Isekeshev.
Nazarbaev’s office said on October 12 that Nazarbaev’s illness forced him to skip a summit of the Russia-led Common Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Yerevan that began on October 14.
The announcement of Nazarbaev’s illness was unusual, as the state of his health is rarely made public in the Central Asian former Soviet republic.
