Minister of Religious Affairs and Civil Society N. Yermekbayev pays a working visit to Belgium

On Monday, Minister of Religious Affairs and Civil Society Nurlan Yermekbayev paid a working visit to Belgium.

As part of this working trip, the Minister met with the Head of the European Parliament delegation for Central Asia Iveta Grigule, EU Special Representative for our region Peter Burian, and President of the Muslim Executive of Belgium Salah Echallaoui.

During the talks with Iveta Grigule, Nurlan Yermekbayev spoke about the Ministry’s work within the framework of implementing Nursultan Nazarbayev’s Address Third Modernization of Kazakhstan: Global Competitiveness and the Program Article Outlook on the Future: Modernizing Public Consciousness.

The Head of the European Parliament delegation expressed full support for the policy conducted in Kazakhstan and the ongoing activities, � Nurlan Yermekbayev told reporters after the meeting.

In turn, Iveta Grigule expressed a number of wishes on interacting with civil society.

The meeting with Peter Burian mainly discussed the bilateral issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union. Participants noted the high importance of maintaining positive dynamics in all areas of interaction.

The issues of interaction and development of civil society, legislation on regulation of activities of non-governmental organizations and religious associations in Kazakhstan were also raised in a substantive manner, � the Minister of Religious Affairs and Civil Society stressed.

According to him, the European Commission supports Kazakhstan’s policy and agrees that, in Kazakhstan, it is necessary to recognize the historical and cultural traditions of a multi-confessional and multi-ethnic state.

In addition, the sides exchanged views on issues of countering religious extremism.
