Few people in our country know that festive decorations, holly wreaths, and a decked out fir tree, in fact, symbolize not the New Year, but the Catholic Christmas. The custom of decorating the green tree originated from the tradition of Germanic peoples, for whom spruce was a symbol of life and fertility.
Messiah, which is often called a Sacred Oratorio, tells the story of the Wise Men who came bearing gifts for the Child.
This is an unrivaled masterpiece of Baroque music. In its musical capacity, the oratorio can be compared with opera: it has very colorful musical pictures, strong dramaturgic lines. It has been 25 years since I started performing this work on Christmas Day. It accompanies me during my entire career as a conductor. I verify whether I am going in the right direction in my creative life according to this work. When I first conducted it, after the performance (which lasts 2.5 hours), I felt a great surge of strength and was ready to be conducting for just as long, said Abzal Mukhitdinov.
Indeed it is true, as Messiah’s music is energizing, optimistic in its nature, certain parts of it bring solace, and it speaks of love and forgiveness.
