Majilis approves ratification of the Agreement with Azerbaijan on road transport
The bill On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on international road transport was approved at the plenary session of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
“In 2016, the volume of cargo transportation by road between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan increased 16 percent and amounted to 6.2 thousand tonnes. This Agreement establishes legal norms for road transport between the two countries, regulates the types of road transport and the procedure for establishing quotas for the exchange of permit forms. The implementation of this Agreement will contribute to the further development of road transport between the two countries, as well as the Kazakh-Azerbaijani trade and economic cooperation, Minister of Investments and Development Zhenis Kassymbek said introducing the bill.
Answering the questions of the Deputies, the Minister noted that in the last 10 years, road transport between the two countries was carried out without a special agreement, since a similar agreement concluded in 1996 lost its force in 2005. After the implementation of the Agreement, there will be no need for special permits for transportation of postal items, equipment for sporting events, exhibitions, theatrical scenery.
In turn, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Roman Vasilenko said that the break before the conclusion of the new Agreement was due to the fact that negotiations were held with the Azerbaijani side for several years. The process was accelerated as a result of the visit of the Head of State to Azerbaijan in April this year, which is when the Agreement was signed.
