Magistrates of leading universities of Kazakhstan took part in the debate on the results of Kazakhstan’s work in the UN Security Council in New York
NEW YORK, Undergraduates of the Kazakh State University named after Al-Farabi and the Institute for Diplomacy of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the “round table” on the results of the work of the United Nations on the UN Security Council in Kazakhstan.
The debate was arranged jointly by the UN Resident Mission in New York, the UN Development Program for Sustainable Development, Ban Ki-moon and the UN Model – New Silk Way Youth Organization.
The agenda of the “round table” included key issues such as “The situation on the Korean Peninsula”, “The Syrian crisis settlement in the context of the Astana process in Syria” and “The situation in Afghanistan”. Some masters have read their reports as experts and answered questions from other participants on these topics. During the discussion the students of Kazakh universities exchanged views on many complex crises of modern international relations and offered solutions to these problems.
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN Kairat Omarov, who started the debate, told about the main achievements of the country in the UN body responsible for peace and security and the peculiarities of the Security Council. He noted that during the two years in the UN Security Council Kazakhstan delegation took part in more than 1000 meetings of the UN Security Council at various levels.
“Kazakhstan’s achievements in the UN Security Council were largely due to the significant initiatives of the Head of State, widely known in the anti-war, anti-nuclear and anti-terrorist spheres. We have been able to upgrade the country’s image on the international scene and deserve high scores for the members of the Council, for our principled and balanced stance on many of today’s key issues, “said K. Omarov.
The Permanent Representative shared his personal experience with Kazakhstani students on the biennial work of the UN Security Council. The Ambassador is the first member of the UN Security Council to visit Afghanistan in the last seven years, the peculiarity of the activities of the UN Security Council, as the chairman of several sanctions committees, the lack of confidence in relations between the major world states and the position of Kazakhstan in the period of escalation, as well as approaches of the country towards solving complex problems in the world He has told in detail.
In the debates on the United Nations model, Director of the Institute for Earth Sciences at the University of Columbia, Professor Rafis Abazov and representative of the United Nations Secretariat’s Public Information Department, Matthew Pampin.
Magistrates of Philosophy and Political Science, Journalism, Law Faculties and Higher School of Economics and Business at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University visited New York as part of the exchange program for Earth Institute at Columbia University.
Master students of the Institute for Diplomacy under the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan are trained under the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations within the framework of the Academy’s cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
