LEBANESE PRESIDENT VOWS TO COMBAT CORRUPTION IN NEW GOVT
BEIRUT, June 2 (NNNXinhua) Lebanese President Michel Aoun stressed on Friday that Lebanon’s next government will make every effort to combat corruption, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.
According to a statement by the presidential media office, Aoun made the pledge during his meeting with European Union Ambassador to Lebanon Christina Lassen.
Aoun said that Lebanon is set to “heal the economy and combat corruption once it forms a new government.”
“After the formation of the government, the next stage is to heal the economy and carry out reforms,” Aoun said.
The president added that he would not “be lenient” toward government corruption, stressing that “reform would be at the center of the upcoming government’s attention.”
Lassen reportedly expressed “optimism” about the formation of the new government. NNNXINHUA
