With a slight increase in the quality of education, Kyrgyzstan’s GDP will grow by 20%, Senior Education Specialist and the Education Statistics Coordinator at the World Bank Husein Abdul-Hamid said during the Bishkek Human Development Forum.

The specialist has conducted research on education in the Kyrgyz Republic and noted for himself that Kyrgyzstan is a leader in terms of access to education, but the quality of education is lower than in most countries in the region.

“Education is highly valued in Kyrgyzstan, qualified specialists earn more and are more in demand in the labor market. This is especially evident in the example of Kyrgyz women, who earn 60% more than their countrymen without higher education. However, with such free access to higher education, the quality of education lags behind. For example, a student, after spending a year at university, receives less than he or she would have received in another country. According to my research, 30% of 30-35 ages people have some kind of degree, but the quality of education shows the lowest rates,” Husein Abdul-Hamid said.

Meanwhile, the expert pointed out that this situation means that the sphere of education in Kyrgyzstan is extremely promising in terms of investment.

“This is due to the fact that even a small improvement in the quality of education will lead to tangible economic growth and increase the country’s GDP,” Husein Abdul-Hamid, adding that achieving this growth is possible only with the implementation of joint programs of the government and universities of the Kyrgyz Republic.
