Kyrgyzstan’s athletes win 9 medals at World Taekwondo Championships in Italy

Athletes from Kyrgyzstan won 9 medals at the ITF Open World Taekwondo Championships in Italy, Deputy Head of the Non-Olympic Sports Directorate Aibek Bakasov told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.

According to his data, the tournament was held on Oct. 25-27 in Maracalagonis (Italy), where two taekwondo players defended the country’s honor. They have won four gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

Our team has achieved good results. In the individual and team classifications our athletes managed to win gold medals. We can evaluate the performance of the national team as successful. This trip was financed by the Directorate,” Bakasov said.

Head of the ITF Taekwondo Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic Kerimbek Miyarov spoke enthusiastically about the compatriots living in Italy. He expressed gratitude to them for their support and assured that the work of the guys was justified.

In turn, Vice-President of the Federation Vitaly Oleinichenko emphasized the high level of competitions, which were attended by more than 700 fighters from 43 countries of the world.

Newly-crowned world champion Bayastan Bargybayev thanked for the trust, as not everyone was able to go to the Championships due to limited funding.

Bargybayev recalled his Netherlands opponent defeated him in the semifinals. He won two rounds. The Italian won the decisive battle for the first place. Taekwondo player Bargybayev in addition to the gold in sparring in the weight category up to 85 kg, became second in the power breakdown of items.

Kuttubek Miyarov became the three-time world champion in sparring in weight up to 60 kg. Moreover, he became the second in the “Tulle” category and the bronze medalist in the “Special Technique” discipline.

We have been preparing for this tournament more than a year. I have fought four fights and in the final met with athlete from Poland. I have taken the first place in the team classification, and the third place in the Special Technique program.

In the “Tulle” discipline I have become the second. We have made every effort to earn gold medals. Our goal is to perform in Japan next year and win all the awards. I hope more guys will go with us, Miyarov summed up.
