Kyrgyzstan’s chess team has arrived in India to participate in the FIDE World Chess Olympiad, which began on July 28, the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in India said Friday.

The opening ceremony was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, in the south of the country.

Kyrgyz Ambassador to India Asein Isaev arrived to greet the Kyrgyz participants of the largest chess event at the International Airport in New Delhi.

The ambassador wished the Kyrgyz chess players a successful performance and the best results and expressed the hope that the Olympics will be a real celebration of sport and friendship.

Representatives of the Kyrgyz Chess Union noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the popularization of this wonderful sport, especially among children and young people.

The Kyrgyz team at the Olympics will be represented by men’s and women’s teams, consisting of 10 participants of different age categories.

The Chess Olympics is the largest sporting event in the world after the Olympic Games. The chess event is held every two years. This year, more than 2000 players from 188 countries participate in the Olympics and the competition will take place from July 28 to Aug. 10 this year.
