Kyrgyzstan and China have agreed to open the third border crossing point on the Bedel pass, Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev said outlining outcomes of the state visit of President Sadyr Japarov to China. “We will build a border crossing point and the road from China to Kyrgyzstan together,” FM Kulubaev stated. He said both countries admit that the existing two border crossing points – Torugart and Irkeshtam – do not cope with increased freight traffic. China agreed to provide support with improvement and enlargement of the given border crossing points. “This is strengthening and expansion of transport and logistics capacities between China and Kyrgyzstan,” FM Kulubaev said. The Bedel pass is over 4,000 m above the sea level in the Kokshaal-Too mountain range. It separates Issyk-Kul region from Xinjiang. According to historical reports, the caravan routes of the Great Silk Road went through the Bedel pass.
