Kyrgyz President expresses condolences on victims of quake in Turkey


Bishkek: President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov expressed condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the people of Turkey on the victims of the earthquake in the city of Sivridge in the province of Elazig, his press service said Saturday.

“I met with the deep sorrow news about the victims of the earthquake in the town of Sivridge, Elyazig province.

On behalf of the people of the Kyrgyz Republic and on my own behalf, I express deep condolences to you and the Turkish people. I share the bitterness of this irreparable loss with the families and friends of the victims. I wish speedy recovery to all the victims,” the letter of condolence runs.

The 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted the eastern Turkish province of Elazig with a population of about 400,000 people at 20:55 local time (the same as the Moscow time) on Friday. The epicenter of the tremor that also affected the neighboring province of Malatya was located at a depth of 10 km.

As a result, at least 20 people were killed and more than 1,000 injured.
