Kazakhstan’s experts discussed agenda of AEF 2018

Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies (KISS) under the President of Kazakhstan in Astana held an expert round table themed “XI Astana Economic Forum: Global Challenges and Kazakhstan in the 21st Century”.

The roundtable was attended by the representatives of the leading domestic centers for the study of economic development trends. They gathered together to discuss the new format of the Astana Economic Forum, the global challenges among which urbanization, sustainability, clean energy, digital world, global security and others that changing the world in ways that dramatically impact every country, including Kazakhstan.

Opening the event, moderator of the round table, director of KISS under the President of Kazakhstan Zarema Shaukenova noted that Kazakhstan was in the mainstream of the world processes. And nowadays we do not have time to develop and adapt slowly. Therefore, a model of accelerating modernization was adopted.

“The Head of State constantly shape agenda, which must lead the country to a high level of development. The goal of Kazakhstan’s accession to the top 30 of the world’s developed countries, five institutional reforms, largescale Modernization 3.0, new opportunities for development in the conditions of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, modernization of public consciousness, social initiatives have become Kazakhstan’s answers to the global challenges due to a breakthrough in the innovative development, implementation of bold institutional reforms and integration with the world”, Z. Shaukenova noted.

In turn, GVA Kazakhstan partner Bulat Stolyarov presented the new format of the forthcoming Forum. In detail he spoke about the program of the Forum, the main themes. Also he told about wellknown guests and participants of the congress in the world community.

“The XI Astana Economic Forum will be held under the aegis of global challenges. Forming the program of the Forum we are trying to consider the key megatrends of the development of the planet through the optics of Kazakhstan’s reality, we will try to associate with Kazakhstan and give answers to questions about clarifying the country’s development plan”, B. Stolyarov said.

By the way, along with the Kazakhstan experts, heads of companies, businessmen, scholars and ministers AEF 2018 is planned to be visited by such wellknown persons as Steve Wozniak (Cofounder, Apple), Francois Hollande (ExPresident of France), Ban KiMoon (the 8th Secretary General of the United Nations), Magomed Musayev (GVA President), Tigran Sargsyan (Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission), Mikheil Janelidze (Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs) and others.

According to deputy director of KISS, doctor of political sciences Sanat Kushkumbayev, the Astana Economic Forum has always been and remains a synchronizing tool, striving to become a bridge between the national economic policy and the global one. The political scientist is convinced that this year the final discussions of the Forum will assist the Kazakhstani experts and the Government in the preparation of the national development strategy for 20192020 and the outlook for the future.

Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of “Institute for Economic Research” JSC, doctor of economic sciences Shakharbanu Zhakupova noted that AEF had become the unique platform for checking whether we are heading in the right direction. Among the global challenges, she outlined the “Digital World” trend.

“All reforms in our country are aimed at adapting to these new challenges in the medium term”, she believed.

Among 11 themes of AEF Deputy Director of the Eurasian Integration Institute, doctor of political sciences Natalya Kalashnikova highlighted the theme “A New Mankind”.

“A serious pool of speakers will be presented at the Forum, including Francois Hollande, who heads “La France s’engage” foundation to support initiatives that strengthen solidarity and forge connections between citizens. In this regard, Kazakhstan will have something to propose for discussion in terms of the President’s social initiatives implementing in the country. The Astana Economic Forum is an opportunity to exchange theory and practice, to measure human participation in the global processes”, N. Kalashnikova thought.

Director of the Center for Regional Studies of “Institute for Economic Research” JSC Kaisar Nigmetov stopped on the problems of agglomerations in the framework of the “Urbanization” trend proposed for discussion at AEF.

“According to the UN forecasts, by 2050 the urban population will be 67%. Four urban agglomerations are actively developing in Kazakhstan”, K. Nigmetov said.

In this regard, the expert expressed confidence that the discussions at the “Urbanization” session will be extremely interesting and rich, and the mayors and governors will gain invaluable experience in the development of “smart cities”.

For reference: XI Astana Economic Forum: Global Challenges Summit 2018 will be held in Astana on May 1719. The Forum expects about 500 notable guests from 24 countries.
