Kazakhstanis have become more active in patenting intellectual property


Kazakhstanis have become more active in patenting intellectual property. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Justice Natalia Pan during an expanded meeting of the Ministry Collegium.

The total number of received applications for registration of intellectual property objects increased 2.5% compared with 2016. Thus, the number of filed applications for trademarks increased 0.8%, for inventions by 0.6%, for utility models by 16.3%, for successful breeds by 94%, for appellations of origin 100 %, � Natalya Pan said.

At the same time, she added that there was a decrease in the number of filed applications for industrial designs � 15.1%.

The number of applications filed in electronic form has significantly increased (47.5%).

In general, the number of applications submitted for the reception of public services involving NIIP (National Institute of Intellectual Property) increased 2.5%.

Compared to 2016, the share of patents granted for utility models increased 2.4%, � Natalia Pan said.

The Deputy Minister also said that the number of applications for inventions submitted in accordance with the international procedure (by 52%) and the Eurasian procedure (by 101.8%) has substantially increased.

Due to the fact that registered intellectual property objects are being used more actively, the share of registered licensing agreements (by 9.7%) and franchising agreements (by 8.3%) has also increased.

In 2017, the judicial authorities conducted 208 inspections to ensure compliance with the legislation on the use of trademarks, which is 13 more than in the same period in 2016 (195 inspections).

Inspections revealed 168 offenses. For comparison, 67 offenses were found in 2016. 167 administrative cases were initiated under Article 158 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan; courts examined 159 cases, 158 persons have been subject to administrative liability.
