Kazakhstani Sambo Wrestlers Have Taken the First Place at the World Cup for the Prizes of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan


The team of Kazakhstan has won leadership in team event at the World Cup in Sambo wrestling among men and women held in Astana and in combat sambo for the prizes of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as informed by the media center of the Mayor’s Office of the capital.

Our team has already obtained 13 gold, 12 silver and 29 bronze medals. On the final day, Kazakhstani athletes managed to win three gold and silver medals. As a result, our national team has 54 medals of different value.

The second place was taken by the Georgian national team (7 gold medals). The top three leaders were closed by Russia with three gold medals. It is worth noting that the Russian team managed to win the third team place on the last day of the competitions, having won two gold medals, and thus pressing Uzbekistan.

The trophy of the tournament was drawn among representatives of nine weight categories: under 52, 57, 62, 68, 74, 84, 90, 100 kg and above 100 kg among men and women.

Kazakhstani athletes were especially distinguished in combat sambo: they managed to win seven gold, three silver and nine bronze medals.

The women’s team of Kazakhstan also demonstrated the skills and will to win. At the end of the World Cup, they had 3 gold, 3 silver and 11 bronze medals. In its turn, the men’s team won 3 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals.

Over 200 sambo wrestlers from 16 countries of the world took part in the competitions: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Romania, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Japan, Tajikistan and the USA.

Participants of the World Cup stage will be invited to visit EXPO-2017 International Specialized Exhibition in Astana.
