Kazakhstan to host 2018 World Mining Congress

In October 2016, Rio de Janeiro hosts XXIV World Mining Congress and Expo 2016 (WMC). Over 4,500 experts from around the world will participate in the event.

In October, the World Mining Congress relay will be transferred to Kazakhstan.

As part of the event, there will be hosted a ceremonial transfer of relay to Kazakhstan, upon which Astana will host 2018 World Mining Congress. The Kazakh delegation will include representatives of state bodies and large specialized mining companies of Kazakhstan.

Hosting a 2018 World Mining Congress in Kazakhstan will contribute, above all, to development of mining industrys investment potential, attraction of global and junior companies. Astana has hosted 7 times the Mining and Metallurgical Congress, thus we have gained large experience in hosting international events on this scale, Albert Rau, the First Vice Minister of Investments and Development, Deputy Chairman of 2018 World Mining Congresss National Organizing Committee, said.

Kazakh delegation will take part in bilateral meetings with the leaders of global mining companies, mining institutes and universities, where the issues of potential joint projects and cooperation in the scientific field will be covered. There will also be a close meeting of World Mining Congresss International Organizing Committee, where Kazakhstans mining complex potential and stages for preparation to 2018 World Mining Congress will be presented.

An additional purpose of Kazakh delegations visit to Rio de Janeiro is the enhanced cooperation with international partners, as well as attraction of global mining business and science to Kazakhstan.

In 2013, Montreal hosted a session of the 23th World Mining Congress, one of agendas points of which was Kazakhstans application to host the 25th World Mining Congress in Astana. Kazakhstan was unanimously voted by the Organizing Committees members.
