Kazakhstan participates in the intellectual property forum in China
On April 20, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Elvira Azimova spoke at the opening of the High-level Forum on China IP Protection.
The event was held under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the State Intellectual Property Office of the PRC.
Last year (Kazinform – July 21-22, Beijing) within the framework of the Chinese initiative, the document Common initiatives to strengthen cooperation between the countries of the New Silk Way in the field of Intellectual Property was adopted at the forum site. The goals of this document are compatible with the tasks of the Eurasian Economic Union in the protection of intellectual property, � Azimova said in her speech at the forum.
According to her, the priorities of the Third Modernization announced by Kazakhstan are consistent with the motto of the World Intellectual Property Day (April 26) of 2017 � Innovations: Improving the quality of life.
Deputy Minister of Justice briefly described the upcoming EXPO-2017 in Astana and the country’s efforts in innovative development.
Kazakhstan ranked 69 out of 91 countries according to the global rating of countries on the level of spending on research and development work Research and Development Expenditure (UNESCO). And according to the World Intellectual Property Organization within the Global Innovation Index of 2016, along with India and Iran, Kazakhstan is one of the three regional leaders in Central and South Asia in the field of innovation, � Azimova said.
Currently, our efforts are aimed at strengthening the capacity of the country’s patent office through improving legislation and modernizing its activities, eliminating administrative barriers in the process of expertise and registration of rights on intellectual property items, improving the ways to protect intellectual property, � she said.
The speaker thanked the experts of WIPO, the Eurasian Patent Organization, judges and patent offices of Germany, Japan and France, who participated in the discussion of the draft law of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the protection of intellectual property.
It has already been submitted to the Parliament of our country. We plan to launch the next step in developing legislative amendments and increasing awareness among citizens and businesses about mechanisms for the protection of intellectual property rights jointly with the World Bank by the end of this year, as part of the Justice Sector Institutional Strengthening Project. We hope that the implementation of the Third Modernization will allow Kazakhstan to significantly strengthen its position in the WIPO Global Innovation Index, � Azimova summed up.
The two-day forum includes 6 sub-forums: Protection of Intellectual Property (IP) on the Internet, Regional Economic Development through IP Protection, “IP Protection for Mobile Terminals”, “Recent Trends in the WIPO Global Services System”, “IP Protection and Institutional Innovations”, “Protection of trade secrets”.
The event is attended by about 500 people – representatives of WIPO, the State Intellectual Property Office of the PRC other authorized bodies of China, universities, research centers, private companies, delegates from Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, the United States and other countries.
