Kazakhstan not to be involved in Syria talks – R.Vassilenko

Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Vassilenko held the first press conference focused on Syria talks in Astana.

The Syria talks will be held upon the initiative of the Presidents of Russia and Turkey, fully supported by the President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev. It is important to keep in mind a fundamental point that Kazakhstan provides the platform for Syria talks only, not getting involved in the negotiations, Deputy Foreign Minister said.

According to the speaker, participating in the talks will be representatives of Syrian government, armed Syrian opposition, and government of Russia, Turkey, Iran, Special Representative of UN Secretary-General and US Ambassador to Kazakhstan.

The heads of all delegations have already arrived in Astana. The talks will start at 13.00, Astana time, at Rixos President Hotel and must be finished on January 24, Roman Vassilenko informed.
