Kazakhstan, Italy commencing military cooperation

Deputy Minister of Defence of Kazakhstan Major General Talgat Mukhtarov met in Astana with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Kazakhstan Stefano Ravagnan. In 2017, Kazakhstan and Italy will for the first time commence a planned military cooperation.

The meeting designated priority areas of confidence and transparency building measures in military matters of the region and the world, training and cooperation between universities, joint field trips, snipers camps, military divers training, peacekeeping units capacity building.

Major General Talgat Mukhtarov noted the importance of Kazakh specialists visit to the Frogmen Center of Italy, and invited the Italian teams to participate in Altyn Uki and Army International Games in 2017.

In 2017, Kazakh-Italian military cooperation switches to a scheduled basis. The first staff negotiations between the defence officials of the two countries were held in November this year, where the sides signed a Plan of Cooperation between the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan and General Staff of Italy for 2017. The plan provides for cooperation in the field of military training, military education, and military personnel participation in joint training and competitions.
