Kazakhstan increasing transit potential through development of new transport corridors
Minister of Investments and Development of Kazakhstan Zhenis Kassymbek spoke at the Governments meeting about measures to unlock transport and logistics potential of Kazakhstan.
In general, over the last five years, the reconstruction has covered 5,000 km of roads, the operational length of railways has been increased by 1,703 km, 4 of 8 airports to be modernized have been fully reconstructed, the Aktau sea port capacity has been increased to 20 million tons, Zh. Kassymbek said.
The Minister noted that Kazakhstan needs to unlock the transit potential through the construction of new international corridors.
For this purpose, there has been constructed railway crossing with China Altynkol station and commissioned the Zhezkazgan Beineu railway, which reduced the distance for over 1,000 km; Uzen Bolashak railroad provides direct rail gate from the West Kazakhstan to the Persian Gulf, the Minister noted.
According to the Minister, the plans on development of transport and logistics infrastructure are being carried out through the Nurly Zhol state program.
The program provides for 16 projects, the bulk of which covers construction and reconstruction of roads of national significance: Almaty Taldykorgan, Astana Petropavl Russian border, etc., the Minister said.
