Kazakhstan increases its presence in the international air transport market
“We have seen a steady growth in the main indicators in the field of civil aviation over the past five years. Kazakhstan takes the second place in passenger transportation among the CIS countries. Astana and Almaty airports were among the ten largest international airports in the CIS member states by the number of passengers handled in 2015, At present, the reconstruction of 14 runways, out of 20 existing airports in Kazakhstan, and 10 passenger terminals was carried out. It is planned to complete the reconstruction of Petropavlovsk airport terminal before the end of the year,” Minister said.
He noted that due to the modernization of infrastructure of Astana airport and the implementation to create a hub in Almaty, as well as the development of international routes and Kazakhstan airlines will ensure threefold increase of transit passenger traffic by 2020.
“It is planned to launch a pilot project for the implementation of the” open sky ” at Astana airport with a view to the gradual liberalization of international air transport market in 2017. In this regard, it is expected to open 8 new destinations to Prague, Helsinki, Vienna, Warsaw, Budapest and other cities,” Minister has said.
