Kazakhstan expects effective cooperation with UN structures – Tokayev
On the 2nd of March, 25 years have passed since Kazakhstan joined the United Nations. K.Tokayev emphasized an important role of the global organization in establishment and development of Kazakhstan as the independent state. Concerning the constitutional reforms, the Speaker expressed opinion that new amendments to the Constitution consolidate democratic, secular, legal and social basis of the Kazakh statehood. The reform raises not only the issues of redistribution of authorities between branches of power, but also includes regulation on firmness of Independence and the fundamental principles laid down by the 1st President of Kazakhstan, the Head of High Chamber of the Parliament noted.
As noted in the Senate of the Parliament, K. Tokayev also drew attention to the fact that the status and responsibility of the Ombudsman will be strengthened in Kazakhstan. The Ombudsman will be elected and dismissed now by the Senate on representation of the President.
During the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on the situation in Central Asia in the context of Kazakhstan’s membership in the UN Security Council. The Senate Chairman noted that strengthening of regional security and cooperation is one of the key priorities stated by President N. Nazarbayev in January appeal to the Security Council.
“Kazakhstan looking forward to close and fruitful cooperation with the UN structures, including the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia. Head of the Center, Special Representative of the Secretary-General Petko Draganov also participated in the meeting”, – K.Tokayev reported.
