Kazakhstan and the European Union are working to strengthen political, trade and economic cooperation

ASTANA, Opening the full potential of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union and its Member States requires special attention from the diplomatic representations of the European Union, accredited by the Foreign Ministry and Kazakhstan. In his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Kazakhstan appreciates the friendly relations with the European Union characterized by active and stable political dialogue. In addition, the results of the fruitful cooperation in 2018, in particular, the participation of President Nursultan Nazarbayev in the 12th Summit of the Asia-Europe Forum (ASEU) in Brussels in October 2018 and meetings with the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and EU leaders were positive. .

Special attention was paid to the issue of effective implementation of the Advanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPC) between Kazakhstan and the European Union, which should be fully implemented in the near future. The participants agreed that the EaPCA will open up new opportunities for cooperation in 29 areas.

The main issue on the agenda was the further strengthening and diversification of trade and economic relations in the context of the foreign policy department of the Republic of Kazakhstan in terms of attracting investments and promoting exports. In particular, the European Union is a major trading and investment partner of Kazakhstan for many years. According to the results of 11 months of 2018 the trade turnover has made 34,4 bln. Total volume of direct foreign investments in the economy of Kazakhstan in the first half of 2018 amounted to 12.3 billion US dollars (49% of the total volume). US dollars. At the same time, with the participation of European companies in Kazakhstan, total cost is about 3 billion tenge. $ 24 large-scale investment projects are being implemented.

The Minister noted that for Kazakhstan diversification of the range of goods exported abroad, creation of joint ventures for production of high-tech goods and export, as well as the export of high-quality and demanded services are priority, search for new markets. “Today Kazakhstan is aiming to become one of the 30 most developed countries of the world, for which the state is taking comprehensive measures to modernize the country’s investment and export oriented economy,” B. It would be an important impetus to promptly resolve the issue of simplifying the EU visa regime for the citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to develop a comprehensive interaction, taking into account the close link between the growth of business contacts and the provision of relations between citizens. In this regard, the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan called on the European side to support the promotion of visa facilitation for Kazakhstan citizens.

The parties also discussed the process of updating the EU Strategy for Central Asia. The positive trends in the dialogue development in the Central Asian region will open new perspectives for cooperation between the European Union and the Central Asian region. “Kazakhstan is ready to actively promote the implementation of a new strategy, which will serve as a more effective and multifunctional basis of deeper cooperation, and will further strengthen the cooperation within the region”.

The sides also exchanged views on topical international and regional issues, in particular, prospects of interaction in the format of the EAEU-EU, regional cooperation in Central Asia, cooperation within the framework of the China Initiative “Belt and the Way” and other issues of the international agenda. .

Following the meeting, the sides agreed to hold regular meetings in such formats and to maintain close contacts. At the same time, the sides emphasized the readiness of the Kazakh side to share dialogue, new thoughts and proposals for deepening bilateral cooperation.
