Kazakhstan and China have confirmed their commitment to strategic partnership
BEIJING, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Beibut Atamkulov paid an official visit to the People’s Republic of China. In the course of the visit, the Foreign Minister held bilateral talks with Wang Yimen, a member of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
The sides discussed topical issues of further development of KazakhChinese cooperation in political, tradeeconomic, cultural and humanitarian spheres and exchanged views on a wide range of issues on the international agenda.
In the context of internal political changes in Kazakhstan, B. Atamkulov informed the Chinese side about the unchanging foreign policy of the country and the fulfillment of its international obligations. “We reaffirm our commitment to strengthen and deepen the relations of a new stage in multilateral strategic partnership,” the Kazakh Foreign Minister said. He also emphasized that “the relationship between Kazakhstan and China is an example of mutually beneficial and effective cooperation”.
In his turn, the Chinese side highly appreciated the historic role of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev in the establishment of KazakhstanChina multilateral strategic partnership, in the joint creation of the Belize and the Road Initiative.
Particular attention was paid to practical cooperation in the format of interregional and frontier cooperation between the two countries, as well as in the field of industrial and investment, digitalization of the economy and technological modernization. Great attention is paid to the effective combination of the initiative “Silk Road Economic Belt” with the New Economic Policy “Nurly Zhol” and integration programs of the Eurasian Economic Union.
In addition, the heads of the foreign ministries of Kazakhstan and China met with the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. cooperation in international organizations and integration associations, ensuring stability and security in Central Asia and exchanged views on transboundary water resources issues.
Part of the negotiations was the issue of the status of ethnic Kazakhs residing in the territory of China. Mutual interest was expressed in the solution of issues arising from the work of the MFA between the two countries and reached an agreement on activation of the consular services.
Following the results of negotiations, a memorandum of cooperation between the foreign ministries of Kazakhstan and China for 20202022 was signed.
The same day, the Kazakh Foreign Minister negotiated with China’s Commerce Minister Zhong Shan and discussed trade and economic cooperation. The Chinese side got acquainted with the new functions and powers of the MFA of the RK in the field of investment promotion and export promotion coordination.
China is a major foreign trade partner of Kazakhstan. In recent years the volume of trade between our countries has grown considerably. In this regard, it was proposed to develop a Roadmap for enhancing trade relations between Kazakhstan and China, which regulates the expansion of trade, optimization of trade structure, increase in trade, and increase of share of hightech products in bilateral trade.
During the visit Minister B. Atamkulov laid flowers to the monument to Kazakh writer Abai Kunanbayev in the central park in Beijing and took part in a ceremony of awarding the Chinese sculptor Yuan Sikun with the medal “25 years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
