Kazakh athletes at final stage of preparations for upcoming 2017 Universiade

168 athletes will represent Kazakhstan at XXVIII World Winter Universiade to be held in Almaty. This was announced at the Government meeting focused on the progress in preparing for the sport event.

According to the Minister of Culture and Sport A.Mukhamediuly, experts and trainers are working on ensuring the implementation of the planned stages of preparatory, competitive and recovery periods of students preparations for the Universiade.

The lineups for the event are already identified. In all sports from the competition program Kazakhstan will be represented by 168 athletes and 65 coaches.

The participating teams will be provided with necessary medical supervision in accordance with the training process schedule. 12 experts from the Republican Center for Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation, as well as additional experts of republican winter sports federations, will serve to Kazakhstan national team.

Kazakhstan has by now taken part in 12 World Universiades, where won 44 medals (18 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze). The best result was achieved at world student games 2015 in Slovakia and Spain, where Kazakhstan climbed to the 3rd place with 11 medals (5 gold and 6 silver) won.

Kazakhstan athletes � the Universiade participants, have 7 times become champions and prize-winners at the world cup of 2016-2017 winter season. In 2016, Kazakhstan teams have in total won 53 medals (16 gold, 11 silver and 26 bronze) at official sport events.

The 2017 World Winter Universiade will take place from January 29 to February 8 in Almaty. More than 2,000 athletes from 59 countries of the world will participate in the upcoming competition. 86 sets of medals will be played out in 12 sports, the largest number of which accounts for speed skating (14 sets), cross-country skiing (11 sets) and short-track (8 sets).
