K TOKAYEV HELD A NUMBER OF MEETINGS WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
In New York, President Kassym Jomart Tokayev has held a number of meetings within the framework of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly,
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym Jomart Tokayev, met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
During the meeting, the Head of State noted the Organization’s role in maintaining international stability and security, prevention and resolution of international conflicts. Kassym Jomart Tokayev expressed his support for Antonio Guterres’s active activity in adapting to the UN’s modern requirements.
The President emphasized that the issue of “Promotion of all round boosting of poverty, quality education, influence on climate change and inclusiveness”, raised at this session of the United Nations, is a topical issue. According to him, Kazakhstan is ready to implement the UN Sustainable Development Goals until 2030. Because this document is in line with the plan announced by our country on the issues of economic and social modernization.
In turn, Antonio Guterres positively assessed Kazakhstan’s interaction with the United Nations system in implementing sustainable development goals. Kazakhstan has played a leading role in the global nuclear arsenal, and has made a significant contribution to the international efforts to resolve regional conflicts, including the Astana process on Syria. The Secretary General expressed his gratitude to Kassym Jomart Tokayev for the opening of the International Organization in Almaty in May 2019, uniting 16 regional offices of the United Nations.
During the meeting prospects of further cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations, including the possibility of expanding participation of our country in the peacekeeping operations within the international organization were considered. In addition, the sides exchanged views on a number of topical issues of world politics.
Kassym Jomart Tokayev also met with King of Jordan II Abdallah.
At the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, Kassym Jomart Tokayev held bilateral talks with Andrzej Duuden, President of Poland.
During the meeting the leaders of the two countries discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation, including the issues of cooperation within the framework of the European Union.
Kassym Jomart Tokayev noted that the high level Kazakh Polish meetings within the framework of the UN General Assembly session in New York have become a good tradition. Kassym Zhomart Tokayev briefed Andrzej Duda on his visit to the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in September 2015 and the Polish leader’s participation in thematic briefing of the UN Security Council in January 2018 with the Head of State.
The Head of State noted readiness for further strengthening of friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Nur Sultan and Warsaw, stressing that relations between Kazakhstan and Poland have been halted.
“The bilateral trade turnover between our countries in 2018 amounted to $ 1.2 billion. More than 100 Polish companies are active in Kazakhstan. In the development of our relations, Kazakhstan made a significant contribution to the lifting of visa regime for Polish citizens, as well as launch of direct air communication between Nur Sultan and Warsaw in 2017, “Kassym Jomart Tokayev said.
Besides, Kassym Jomart Tokayev told Andrzej Duda that the National Council of Public Scientists has been established in Kazakhstan. The same structure works under the leadership of the President of Poland in this country.
